Leg Two Press Release LSBS

LEG TWO OF THE 2012 LOS SUEÑOS SIGNATURE BILLFISH SERIES

Incredible release of over 16 fish per boat

COSTA RICA, Playa Herradura (March 30, 2012) – The second leg of the 9th Annual Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series, sponsored jointly by International Special Risk Insurance, Smith Merritt Insurance and Traveler’s, was held March 21‐24 out of Los Sueños Resort and Marina. Registration increased from the 37 participating boats in January to 41 boats in March. The 156 participating anglers caught and released a total of 668 billfish, including 20 marlin and 648 sailfish. With sailfish worth 100 points each and marlin worth 500 points, each marlin bite made all the difference.

DAY 1

The first day of fishing the teams had already released 49 billfish, including 1 marlin release by Let it Ride. The fishing was hot throughout the day, with an incredible spurt around 10:30 am when 10 fish were released in under 3 minutes and 2 teams hooked up to marlins. Before noon, the fish count was already at 159 and C'est Tout Bon had just moved into first place after releasing the fifth marlin of the tournament. After countless doubles, triples and even a quadruple by Fuujin around 12:30 pm, the final fish tally for the day ended at 362, including 6 marlin. Bandolera took first for the day with 2700 points after releasing 27 sails in just 8 hours of fishing, C’est Tout Bon reached 2300 points with 13 sail and 2 marlin releases and Southern Pride ended in third with 1900 points after releasing 19 sails.

DAY 2

Never Say Never started the day off right by releasing a sail at 8:07 am, just 7 minutes after lines in. At 10:13 am Miss Judy released a marlin, Team Norby was hooked up (they proceeded to release it at 10:28 am) and the two‐day fish count had risen to 429 billfish. Pescadora brought in a not uncommon triple just before 3 pm, bringing the total billfish releases to 528. It was Never Say Never who ended up winning the day, but Bandolera remained in first place for Leg II going into DAY 3, as well as for the Series Champion. C'est Tout Bon placed second at the end of Day 2 for Leg II with 2900 points and Southern Pride was in 3rd with 2500 points on time, tied for with Never Say Never. The final fish count for the day was 184 billfish, including 4 marlin with a two‐day total of 546 billfish, including 12 marlin.

DAY 3

It was Sea Angel with the first sail of Day 3 at 8:11 am. As always, the action kept onlookers and fellow competitors on their toes. Miss Judy caught the first marlin of the day before 10:30 am, just before Rum Runner released fish #595 Silver Asset Management Corporation, c/o Corporate Office, Los Sueños Resort and Marina and Never Say Never hooked up to a marlin. By 2:14 pm the teams had released 648 billfish and by the time Never Say Never released the last fish of the tournament, a sail, at 3:56 pm for third place with 3300 points, the final tally was at 668 billfish, including 20 marlin and 648 sails, for an average of over 16 fish per boat. Bandolera secured a solid first place finish for Leg II with 4600 points and also took the coveted title of Series Champion with a two tournament total of 8200 points. C’est Tout Bon finished second for Leg II with 4200 points.

TOP ANGLER

The top angler this time finished with a 100 point lead, or one sailfish release, over three anglers who tied for second. Although not angling on one of the winning boats, Francis Johnson Jr. represented his team, Sea Fix, proudly, having released 16 sails over the three days of fishing for 1600 points. Francis received an invitation from Chris Martin to the 2012 World Billfish Series World Championship, to be held out of Los Sueños Resort and Marina in December.
